Teaching reading based on Orton-Gillingham

When I was teaching my children to read in the 70’s and 80’s I used The Writing Road to Reading by Romalda B. Spalding. It is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading and spelling (as were all good reading and spelling curricula). Today I recommend All About Reading, which also is based on Orton-Gillingham. The Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching reading and spelling uses instruction that is multisensory, sequential, incremental, cumulative, individualized, phonics-based, and explicit. Read about Orton-Gillingham here.

AAR and AAS do look very good & there’s tons of support and extras that that the one I used could never have as it was before the internet’s time. I used and loved Phonics For Reading and Spelling. Much more affordable too. If Bonnie had lived Im sure she would have been online also!
