This was terrific! Interesting to link the child's food (beyond the nurturing issues) with resulting character. And how much more foreign to the child's body than another mother's milk is soy milk and other formulas.

Great comments, too. Christine, I like your "baby days." That is a very wise practice with many benefits, for sure.

I've heard the six-weeks post-partum called the final stage of labor. It's hard to rest for that long in our busy culture, especially when you have older children involved with things like piano lessons. This is where grandparents and the church community can really help.

Thank you, Laurie, for this very interesting piece!

Laurie,

This is a sober reminder that people are people and that our selfish nature hasn't changed much over the centuries. Women still wanted to do whatever they wanted and not be the mommies the Lord intended them to be. It also shows that people were not so stupid "back then" as is the picture painted nowadays. There seems to be a beautiful understanding of nursing in this writing, by a man nonetheless!

As I am about to embark on the nursing of my 7th child, it is a lovely reminder of why we have learned to keep the first several months as "baby days" where I know and the other children know that nursing the baby is top priority and it takes LOTS of time. (I have those babies who seem to nurse 24/7)

Love in Christ,
Christine

Bravo! I applaud, and agree wholeheartedly. What beautiful words and eloquent speech to describe such a peace-giving, bonding, as well as nourishing experiencing. I nursed my 3 children as well, and would highly recommend it to any mother-to-be. Nursing is a "magical" connection between mother and baby, and time stands still when baby's little eyes lock on mommy's face, knowing she is his all in all. What a beautiful design of God.

Wow, wonderful, wonderful words. I'm currently nursing my 4th child, and am loving every moment of it. I am so very thankful that the Lord gave us these means to nourish our children. What a blessing for both baby and momma.
