Oh oh! I just read Up From Slavery in February and was so surprised by what a delightful book it was. I expected it to be dry but instead thoroughly enjoyed learning about Mr. Washington's interesting and eventful life. I plan to read it to my children in the fall- especially the parts describing the work he had to do to raise the money to get anywhere. Yes, especially the parts about his hard work!
